I had the honor last night of attending the “Keepers of the Dream” Celebration at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. It was a wonderful celebration of Martin Luther King and the arts in our community. Dreams With Wings own Carolyn Bunton was the recipient of the “Vision Award” for her work in bringing the arts to the individuals we support. She indeed is a very deserving recipient! She quietly does her work and is a true advocate for the individuals we support. She has opened so many doors for so many. She is an outstanding employee and a wonderful representative of Dreams ! You are the best Carolyn!! Congratulations!

Countdown to Stroll….It’s TOMORROW!

It is a mass of activity here at Dreams With Wings, on the eve of The Stroll. Volunteers from UPS, Ernst & Young, The Louisville Library and numerous schools: Bellarmine University, Our Lady of Lourdes, Depaul School, Trinity, Mercy, and Assumption High Schools among others have been caving the over 2500 pumpkins that will be lit tomorrow night. Yes, I did say 2500! Our pickers were a little zealous in their quest to “Light Up” Slugger Field, but fear not our carvers are just as enthusiastic.

So, what will the day hold?

Dreams day will start very early with WDRB in the Morning, with Keith Kaiser from 5am to 9am. Just a hint Keith’s segment is on at 20 after the hour. After WDRB in the Morning, we will head over to Highland Middle School where the students will help prepare “Louisville’s Largest Pumpkin Pie”. This no bake pie is a favorite at The Stroll. It has a graham cracker crust, layer of cream cheese and of course pumpkin. After the pie is complete the wonderful folks at Creation Garden will bring one of their refrigerated trucks to pick up the pie and deliver it just in time for The Stroll to begin.

As the sun starts to set tomorrow night, the field will be alive with the warm glow of Jack O’ Lanterns. Entertainment will include: 102.3 The Max’s own George Lindsey, Michael Bush and The All Stars, Krispy Kreme Donuts, Trick or Treating, Louisville’s Largest Pumpkin Pie, Buddy Bat, Louisville Metro’s finest Police and Fire Department, games and crafts. We hope you will join us at Louisville Slugger Field from 6pm to 9pm for an enchanted evening.

Countdown to the Stroll Day – 9

Part of the challege in moving a “neighborhood tradition” event, such as The Jack O’ Lantern Stroll, is getting the word out. Several of Dreams With Wings staff and clients: Jenifer, Carolyn, Karen, Brian, Jennie, Fred and Derek, paid a visit to Rachel Platt and Terry Meiner on the set of Great Day Live. Rachel and Terry were given an up close demonstration on the art of pumpkin carving. Many of the folks at Dreams have become experts in this field. To date the staff and volunteers in the past ten years have carved over 10,000 Jack O’ Lanterns for The Stroll! This year we are “Stepping It Up a Notch” and will carve over 1700 for the display at Louisville Slugger Field!

Countdown to the Stroll – Day 10.

In ten days, Dreams will be hosting the largest Jack O’ Lantern Stoll of its career!

Exciting New!! The Jack O’ Lantern Stroll is MOVING to The Louisville Slugger Field!!

It has been exciting and busy time for all of us at Dreams. An event as large as this could never come together without the hard work and dedication of everyone in the organization and literally hundreds of volunteers.

So, let me catch you up. To date at the event we have Michael Bush and The All-Stars and 102.3 The Max’s George Lindsey will be joining us again to liven up the place with music. Mercy High School’s Dance Team will be entertaining us with a wonderful show. All of our dedicated public hero’s will be represented, Louisville Mounted Police, Louisville Police and Louisville Fire Department. Buddy Bat will be making an appearance. A new presents at the Stroll will be the Zooperstars! Of course we will have crafts, games, trick or treating, Louisville’s Largest Pumpkin Pie and of course over 1700 Jack O’ Lanterns!!
