Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive

October the 2nd marked the 128th Anniversary of the first meeting of the founders of The Knights of Columbus. This date also marked their annual Louisville Tootsie Roll Drive to benefit individuals with mental disabilities.
If you were driving down Brownsboro Road last weekend you may have received a tootsie roll from a Dreams With Wings staff person for your generous donation. We have volunteered for the Knights of Columbus for several years now. They have always been very generous in their support of Dreams With Wings. So if you rolled down your window and dug the change from your cup holder or ashtray and added to one of our buckets, we want to Thank You. Your change truly does make a change in the lives of the individuals we support.
A little rain must fall…
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow once said: “
Into each life a little rain must fall…”, or in the case of this year’s Golf Scramble, alot of rain fell, and fell and fell…until the bridge to the eleventh hole was under water. The scramble was canceled, but we will be out putting again in the spring. The rain date decided on will be Monday, April 19, 2010.

Success At The Kentucky State Fair!

Paul's pottery
Nine clients from the day program entered art pieces into the Kentucky State Fair this year, from acrylic abstract paintings to collages to pottery and glass. We were thrilled to find that Paul won first place in handbuilt pottery and Tony received second! They were extremely excited and didn’t hesitate to spread the news to everyone they came across. Paul and Tony as well as many of the Building Dreams Clients participated in a weekly pottery class and have enjoyed expanding their knowledge and experience in clay. They have entered their pieces in numerous art shows and fairs throughout the year. Everyone had a great time making and entering their art this year and are already anticipating when next year’s fair comes around. Other entrants were Bobby, Karen and JoAnn who entered paintsings; Bobby also entered his home grown cherry tomatoes. Cheryl entered her, Hawaian Sunset Cake; last year Cheryl’s cake won second place in that catorgory. This is her forth year of competition. Chip entered a collage and Mary Kat entered pottery. We are all very proud of our talented artists!
