Auld Lang Syne

The song, “Auld Lang Syne,” is sung at the stroke of midnight in almost every English- speaking country in the world to bring in the New Year. In spite of the popularity of ‘Auld Lang Syne’, it has aptly been described as the song that nobody knows. Even in Scotland, hardly a gathering sings it correctly, without some members of the party butchering the words.

Written by Robert Burns in 1741, it was first published in 1796 after Burns’ death. “Auld Lang Syne” literally means “old long ago,” or simply, “the good old days.”

Auld Lang Syne by Robert Burns

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne

We twa hae run aboot the braes
And pou’d the gowans fine;
we’ve wander’d mony a weary foot
Sin’ auld lang syne

We two hae paidled i’ the burn,
Frae mornin’ sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
Sin’ auld lang syne

And here’s a hand, my trusty friend,
And gie’s a hand o’ thine;
We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne

English Version (Auld Lang Syne)

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old times since ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
And surely I’ll buy mine !
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine ;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine ;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

Santa Comes Early

Santa is a big hit at DWW's Day Program

Santa is a big hit at DWW's Day Program

Santa Claus and his wonderful elves from Northeast Christian Church visited Dreams Day Program last week.  The kind folks at Northeast Christian adopted our angels this year and made our client’s Christmas party a memorable one.

Mack was so excited to see Santa Claus he jumped up from his seat and ran over for a hug as soon as the man in the red suit arrived.  Santa Claus handed each client a gift from under the tree and the clients posed for pictures with jolly St. Nick. The afternoon was spent listening to Christmas music chatting with friends and of course Santa too.  A delicious lunch of bar-b-que chicken, mash potatoes and green beans was served from Kinsley’s.

December 9, 2008 marked an exciting day in the future of Dreams With Wings.  In partnership with St. Michael Orthodox Church, Dreams broke ground on a new community of apartments.  This one bedroom,8-plex with laundry facilities on-site, will give the residents the independence they want with the support they need.

This project has been several years in the making and both Executive Director Jenifer Frommeyer and Father Atty are excited about the joint effort.
